Technical Programme

The first day, entitled  Getting Started With OpenSees is intended to give a major overview of the  program  features,  starting  from  a  basic  introduction  of  the  structure  of  the  programme, introducing  some  basic  tools  and  interpreter  related  issues.  This  is  followed  by  a  basic introduction  to  nonlinear  static  and  dynamic  analysis,  with  simple  illustrations  being  given. Nonlinear frame elements are then addressed, covering their characteristics, pitfalls and major advantages being discussed, along with the options available within the programme framework.

Then  an  introduction  to  ND  elements  currently  available  and  their  applicability  in  nonlinear analysis of some very simple cases  is presented. The day finishes with two lectures on specific analysis which have been developed with the framework tools, fire and geotechnical modeling. The models, along with a small tutorial are provided to all the attendees.

The second day  is  essentially  composed  by  the presentation of multiple and more complex problems as case study examples.  The first lecture will be focused on adding code to the framework, while the following lectures will broaden our horizons  in  which  concerns  to  the  analysis  of  complex  systems  with  the  parallel  processing tools  currently  available.

The remaining time will be spent with presentations given by the participants of the workshop. The main goal of these presentations is to share recent developments, outcomes, challenges and launch a productive discussion among the participants.
